Asia’s ‘most beautiful island’ welcomes 82,000 foreign tourists during holidays

Phu Quoc, named Asia’s most beautiful island by Condé Nast Traveler, saw 82,000 international visitors during the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and Reunification-Labor Day holidays, a 90 percent increase year-on-year. The island welcomed over one million visitors in early 2026, highlighting significant growth in Vietnam’s tourism sector.

Phu Quoc, voted Asia’s most beautiful island by readers of Condé Nast Traveler, welcomed 82,000 international visitors during the Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day and Reunification-Labor Day holidays, marking a 90 percent increase year-on-year.

The island, located in southern An Giang Province, recorded a total of 309,600 tourist arrivals over the seven-day holiday period (April 25-27 and April 30-May 3), up 34 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.

Phu Quoc continues to stand out as a key driver of Vietnam’s tourism growth. In the first four months of 2026 alone, the island welcomed more than one million international visitors, a 61.5 percent increase year-on-year and nearly half of its annual target of two million foreign arrivals.

The surge reflects a broader trend across Vietnam’s coastal destinations. Cities and provinces such as Da Nang, Thanh Hoa, Nha Trang, and Quang Ninh – home to Ha Long Bay – also experienced strong visitor growth during the holiday period, as travelers sought coastal escapes amid the early summer heatwave.

Nationwide, average hotel occupancy rates reached 65 to 70 percent, while major seaside destinations reported occupancy levels exceeding 90 percent.
