Da Nang, Sa Pa set to become biggest draws during April holidays

Tourist destinations in Vietnam, like Da Nang and Sa Pa, are experiencing high hotel occupancy rates of around 90% due to strong travel demand during the upcoming holidays. The rising popularity of coastal getaways and a heatwave have further increased bookings, leading to higher prices and nearly full capacities across various accommodation segments.

Popular tourist destinations such as Da Nang and Sa Pa are recording hotel occupancy rates of around 90 percent during the upcoming late-April holidays, reflecting strong travel demand nationwide.

According to data released on April 22 by Mustgo, which partners with more than 2,000 hotels across Vietnam, Sa Pa is nearly fully booked ahead of the three-day Hung Kings’ Commemoration Day holiday beginning this Sunday. Its proximity to Hanoi and accessibility by private vehicles continue to sustain demand, particularly as rising airfares influence travel choices.

For the longer Reunification Day and International Labor Day holiday from April 30 to May 3, occupancy rates in Sa Pa have surpassed 80 percent.

Da Nang is emerging as one of the standout destinations this season, supported by a diverse lineup of tourism activities, including artistic kite performances, food festivals, swimming competitions, and water sports events. Data from Agoda shows that accommodation searches for Da Nang between April 24 and May 2 have surged by 89 percent year-on-year, making it the second most searched domestic destination after Vung Tau.

Mustgo data also indicates that the city’s upscale hospitality segment is approaching full capacity. International five-star beachfront hotels are reporting occupancy rates of around 90 percent, while domestic four- and five-star beachfront properties are seeing even higher levels of up to 95 percent.

As an early and intense heatwave pushes temperatures close to 40 degrees Celsius in many parts of the country, travelers are increasingly drawn to cooler coastal destinations. Island getaways such as Ly Son and Phu Quy are experiencing particularly strong demand, with occupancy rates exceeding 90 percent.

By the third week of April, most hotels and homestays on both islands were fully booked, especially in the mid-range segment. While a limited number of rooms remain available at some properties, prices have risen by 20 to 40 percent compared to normal levels.

A representative from Muong Thanh Hotel Ly Son, which has 93 rooms, noted that bookings for the holiday period came earlier than usual this year, with reservations beginning to surge as early as late March.
