Ha Long Bay – The Land of Legends

In Vietnamese, Ha Long means “descending dragon.” Dragons play a prominent role in Vietnamese culture, and the most popular legend has it that one such creature and her children descended from heaven to defend the Viet people from invaders, spraying fire and emeralds or jade. She and her children then stayed on Earth (National Geographic).

Ho Chi Minh City – A different perspective on Covid-19’s Independence Day.

The National Day (or Independence Day) is one of the most significant holidays in the Vietnamese calendar. This day September 2nd marks the day revolutionary leader Ho Chi Minh declared Vietnam’s independence from France. If this is for a regular year, across the country, Vietnamese commemorate this monumental occasion with flags, cheerful festivities and fireworks at night.
