Da Nang welcomes over 4 million int’l visitors in January-May

In the first five months of 2026, Da Nang’s economy thrived, driven by a 29% increase in tourism, with 1.78 million visitors in May. The city also witnessed significant industrial growth, with 3,165 new businesses and strong public investment. Authorities are focused on resolving administrative bottlenecks to sustain this momentum.

Tourism continued to be the standout performer in Da Nang’s economy during the first five months of 2026, with strong growth in both domestic and international arrivals driving expansion across trade, services, and transportation, according to the Da Nang People’s Committee.

In May alone, the city’s accommodation sector welcomed approximately 1.78 million visitors, up 29% compared to the same period last year.

International arrivals reached 872,000, an increase of more than 31%, while domestic visitor numbers rose nearly 27% to 906,000.

Tourism authorities attributed the growth to a year-round calendar of cultural events, festivals, sporting competitions, and destination marketing initiatives that have helped maintain Da Nang’s appeal among both local and international travelers.

The tourism surge has also generated positive spillover effects across the broader economy. Trade, services, and transportation continued to record healthy growth, supported by stable supply chains and the absence of significant market disruptions or price fluctuations.

As of May 20, Da Nang had collected VND34.3 trillion (US$1.3 billion) in state budget revenue, achieving nearly 52% of its full-year target.

Industrial production remained another key contributor to economic growth. During May, authorities issued new business registration certificates to 599 enterprises, branches, and representative offices, with total registered capital exceeding VND5.7 trillion (US$216.8 million).

Since the beginning of the year, 3,165 new businesses have been established in the city, representing an increase of more than 40% year-on-year. In addition, 1,426 enterprises resumed operations after periods of inactivity.

Alongside investment promotion efforts, Da Nang has continued to accelerate public investment and infrastructure development. By the end of May, the city had disbursed more than VND3.09 trillion (US$117 million) in public investment capital, equivalent to 19.2% of its annual plan.

Housing development also remains a priority. The city is currently implementing 24 social housing projects, expected to deliver more than 21,200 apartments. In 2026, authorities aim to break ground on an additional seven to nine projects and bring approximately 7,000 apartments to market.

To sustain growth momentum, Chairman of the municipal administration Nguyen Manh Hung has called on departments and local authorities to accelerate the resolution of bottlenecks related to administrative procedures, land management, planning, and investment approvals.

He also urged agencies to review major projects, address outstanding issues involving planning and implementation mechanisms, expedite site clearance and resettlement processes, and reallocate capital from slow-disbursing projects to those capable of progressing more effectively.

At the same time, city authorities have been instructed to work proactively with strategic investors to facilitate project implementation while preparing disaster response plans ahead of the upcoming storm and rainy season.

With tourism, investment, and infrastructure development advancing in parallel, Da Nang continues to strengthen its position as one of Vietnam’s most dynamic urban and tourism destinations.
