Hanoi attracted over 18 million visitors in the first half of 2026, marking a 15.7 percent increase from 2025. Domestic tourists accounted for 13.37 million, driving significant tourism revenue growth. Recognized as a top destination for both leisure and business travel, Hanoi aims for over nine million international visitors by year-end.

Hanoi welcomed more than 18 million visitors during the first six months of 2026, reinforcing its position as one of Vietnam’s leading tourism destinations and highlighting its growing appeal among both domestic and international travellers.

According to a report released by the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the capital recorded an estimated 18 million tourist arrivals between January and June, representing a 15.7 percent increase compared to the same period last year and achieving more than half of its annual target.

Domestic tourism remained a key driver of growth, with approximately 13.37 million local travellers visiting the city, up 12.3 percent year-on-year.

Tourism revenue reached an estimated VND74.23 trillion (US$2.8 billion) during the first half of the year, marking a 19.1 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Average hotel occupancy also remained strong at 65.6 percent, reflecting sustained demand across the hospitality sector.

The latest figures underscore Hanoi’s continued attractiveness as a destination for both leisure and business travel. The city currently offers more than 3,760 accommodation establishments with over 71,200 rooms, supporting its growing tourism industry.

Local authorities attribute much of this success to Hanoi’s rich cultural heritage, historical significance, and diverse visitor experiences, which continue to resonate with travellers from around the world.

The capital’s international profile has also strengthened in 2026 through a series of global recognitions. In Tripadvisor’s Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations 2026 awards, Hanoi was named the second most popular destination in Asia. The city also ranked fourth among the world’s top 25 destinations, seventh among the leading cultural destinations, and 11th among the best culinary destinations globally.

These accolades continue to reinforce Hanoi’s reputation as a safe, culturally rich, and internationally competitive destination while further elevating its position on the global tourism map.

Looking ahead, Hanoi aims to welcome more than nine million international visitors and 27.27 million domestic travellers in 2026. The city plans to continue strengthening key international source markets, including China, South Korea, and India, while further stimulating domestic travel demand during the second half of the year.
