Vietnamese airlines ramp up international services ahead of summer boom season

Vietnamese airlines are expanding internationally to meet summer travel demand, with Vietjet Air launching new routes to China and the Hanoi-Shizuoka route. Vietnam Airlines introduces a direct route to Amsterdam, enhancing its European network. Other airlines like Vietravel and Sun PhuQuoc Airways are also increasing services, reflecting strong recovery in Vietnam’s aviation sector.

Vietnamese airlines are expanding their international networks with a series of new routes across Asia and Europe, aiming to capture peak summer travel demand.

At a recent Vietnam-China cooperation forum, Vietjet Air announced five new routes connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with key Chinese destinations, including Hangzhou, Enshi, Huangshan, and Guilin. Two of these routes are already in operation, with the remaining services scheduled to launch in the coming months.

The airline is also strengthening its presence in Northeast and Southeast Asia. A new Hanoi-Shizuoka route is set to commence on April 28, while services from Da Nang to Jakarta and Nha Trang to Singapore are expected to follow shortly.

Vietnam Airlines is enhancing its long-haul network with the introduction of a direct Hanoi-Amsterdam route starting June 16. Operated by Airbus A350 aircraft, the service will mark the first non-stop connection between Vietnam and the Netherlands, providing improved access to a major European trade and logistics hub. With this addition, the airline will operate 12 direct routes to Europe, including destinations such as Paris, Frankfurt, and London.

The carrier is also reinforcing regional connectivity. On April 12, it launched a new Ho Chi Minh City-Phuket route with five weekly flights, catering to growing leisure travel demand between the two destinations.

Meanwhile, Vietravel Airlines resumed its Hanoi-Bangkok service on April 24, and newcomer Sun PhuQuoc Airways introduced a Phu Quoc-Seoul route on April 17.

Industry observers note that the simultaneous expansion by multiple carriers reflects a strong recovery in Vietnam’s aviation sector, as airlines move to capture increasing international travel demand.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, domestic air travel reached 24.1 million passengers in the first quarter of 2026, up 16 percent year-on-year. International traffic also rose by 19 percent to 13.9 million passengers, supported by robust demand from key markets such as China, South Korea, and Japan.
