Asia’s ‘most beautiful island’ to pilot flight check-in service at some hotels amid tourism boom

Phu Quoc International Airport is initiating a pilot program allowing travelers to check in and drop off luggage at selected hotels, improving efficiency for guests of Sun PhuQuoc Airways. This initiative aims to reduce airport processing times amidst rising tourism, as international visitors surged by 72 percent in early 2026.

Phu Quoc International Airport is set to launch a pilot program from Friday allowing travelers to complete flight check-in procedures directly at their hotels, as the island continues to experience a surge in tourism demand.

Under the initiative, passengers can check in, drop off their baggage, and receive boarding passes at participating hotels before heading to the airport. Checked luggage will be transported separately and processed in accordance with standard security procedures, helping to streamline the airport experience.

In its initial phase, the service will be available at La Festa Phu Quoc, Curio Collection by Hilton, and New World Phu Quoc Resort for passengers flying with Sun PhuQuoc Airways, Vietnam’s newest carrier. Guests staying in nearby areas such as Sunset Town and Khem Beach will also have access to the service.

The model is expected to expand in the future, reducing processing times at the airport and easing pressure on terminal facilities, which are currently experiencing significant growth.

Phu Quoc International Airport handled more than 2.27 million passengers in the first quarter of 2026, a 147 percent increase year-on-year. Growth was recorded across both domestic and international segments, with international passenger numbers reaching approximately 1.2 million and domestic traffic exceeding 1.07 million.

The island continues to stand out as a key driver of Vietnam’s tourism sector. According to the An Giang Department of Tourism, Phu Quoc welcomed 817,000 international visitors in the first quarter, up 72 percent year-on-year, and is targeting two million foreign arrivals for the full year.
