Asia’s ‘most beautiful island’ welcomes over 2.2 million air passengers in first quarter

Phu Quoc International Airport experienced a 147 percent increase in passenger traffic in Q1 2026, handling over 2.27 million travelers. Notable growth occurred in both international and domestic segments, with South Korea as a key market. The island aims for two million international arrivals this year, aided by infrastructure improvements before APEC 2027.

Phu Quoc International Airport handled more than 2.27 million passengers in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 147 percent increase year-on-year, as tourism demand continues to surge on the island recently voted Asia’s most beautiful by readers of Condé Nast Traveler.

Growth was recorded across both international and domestic segments. International passenger traffic reached approximately 1.2 million, while domestic travel exceeded 1.07 million. South Korea remained a key international source market, while the Ho Chi Minh City–Phu Quoc route continued to account for a significant share of domestic traffic.

The strong performance underscores Phu Quoc’s growing role as a standout destination within Vietnam’s tourism sector. According to the An Giang Department of Tourism, the island welcomed 817,000 international visitors in the first quarter alone, up 72 percent year-on-year.

Looking ahead, Phu Quoc is targeting two million international arrivals this year, supported by ongoing infrastructure upgrades as the island prepares to host APEC 2027.
