Vietnam opens cross-bay tourism route linking Ha Long, Lan Ha

Authorities have launched a new tourism route connecting Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay to enhance regional tourism and heritage value. The initiative is expected to increase daily visitors to Ha Long Bay by 5,000 to 6,000, with over 50 overnight vessels from Lan Ha Bay. Ticket sales begin Saturday.

Authorities have officially introduced a new tourism route connecting Ha Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay, allowing tourist vessels to operate seamlessly between the two destinations under a coordination framework agreed on March 26.

The initiative aims to enhance the value of the shared heritage area while boosting regional tourism. According to the Ha Long-Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board, Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh Province is expected to welcome an additional 5,000 to 6,000 visitors per day, along with more than 50 overnight vessels arriving from Lan Ha Bay in Hai Phong.

To support the rollout, Quang Ninh authorities have directed relevant agencies to standardize vessel operations. Tourist boats must comply with existing technical, safety, and environmental regulations applicable to floating accommodation and restaurant vessels. Border guards, waterway police, and port authorities will also strengthen inspections to ensure safety and maintain order across tourism activities.

Tickets for the new route will be available from Saturday at Tuan Chau Port and Ha Long International Passenger Port.

Ha Long Bay was first inscribed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in 1994 for its exceptional landscape and geological value. In 2023, the designation was extended to include the Ha Long Bay-Cat Ba Archipelago, encompassing Lan Ha Bay, in recognition of its ecological and biodiversity significance.
