How Da Nang International Airport makes big jump in 2026 Skytrax ranking

Da Nang International Airport is enhancing operations through digital transformation, rising to 75th in Skytrax’s 2026 rankings. With traffic growth challenging its limited space, technological solutions like real-time data, waiting-time displays, and an ERP system improve efficiency and passenger comfort. Future plans include advanced analytics and biometric solutions for streamlined processing.

Digital transformation is reshaping operations at Da Nang International Airport, helping it rise nine places to 75th in Skytrax’s 2026 list of the world’s top 100 airports.

Located in the city centre, the airport benefits from strong accessibility but faces mounting pressure from rapid traffic growth. With limited space for physical expansion, technology has become a key solution for improving efficiency within existing infrastructure. Aircraft movements are projected to approach 100,000 this year, a significant volume given current capacity.

Passengers are already experiencing the impact. Digital waiting-time displays, indoor navigation maps, and chatbot services are enhancing real-time information, allowing travellers to navigate the airport more smoothly and independently.

German traveller Abinesh Kugavathanan described the airport as safe, spacious, and visually appealing, highlighting its comfortable outdoor areas and integration of natural elements. Beyond technology, improving overall passenger comfort remains central to the airport’s development strategy.

Since 2023, the implementation of the Airport Operational Database (AODB) has enabled real-time data sharing, improving coordination and supporting more advanced operational analysis. According to Vo Luong Trung, head of the airport’s IT team, the system tracks passenger flows throughout the day, allowing for more precise allocation of staff, equipment, and services during peak periods.

The introduction of an ERP system in 2025 has further streamlined internal processes, reducing document processing times and strengthening operational oversight. In the same year, the airport recorded 11 initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and service quality.

Looking ahead, Da Nang International Airport is shifting its focus from data collection to data-driven decision-making. In 2026, it plans to deploy the Airport Collaborative Decision Making (ACDM) system to improve coordination across stakeholders and enhance operational transparency.

Le Hoai Nam, Deputy Director of the airport, noted that the system is being introduced in response to increasing traffic demands, with shared data and decision-support tools expected to optimize performance across all operational units.

In the long term, the airport aims to handle up to 20 million passengers and 330,000 tonnes of cargo annually. With land constraints limiting physical expansion, technology will remain central to its growth strategy. Artificial intelligence is being explored for advanced analytics and forecasting, while biometric solutions are under consideration to further streamline passenger processing and reduce waiting times.
