Vietnam gains popularity among Filipino travelers

Vietnam is quickly becoming a favored destination for Filipino travelers, with over 482,000 arrivals projected in 2025. This trend, supported by visa exemptions and enhanced bilateral ties, sees popular tourist spots like Da Nang and Phu Quoc attracting visitors. Ongoing tourism collaborations, including an upcoming ASEAN Tourism Forum, aim to strengthen ties further.

Vietnam is increasingly emerging as a preferred destination for travelers from the Philippines, welcoming more than 482,000 arrivals in 2025. This growth is supported by ASEAN visa exemption policies and strengthened bilateral exchanges between the two countries.

According to the Tourism Information Center under the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), the number of Filipino visitors has rebounded strongly since the Covid-19 pandemic and continues to grow. Popular destinations among Filipino travelers include Da Nang, Sa Pa, Phu Quoc, and Nha Trang, alongside Vietnam’s diverse and distinctive cuisine.

VNAT Director Nguyen Trung Khanh noted that Vietnam and the Philippines share similarities in tourism resources, natural conditions, and cultural heritage. Both countries, located within Southeast Asia, are well-positioned to collaborate in developing tourism products and attracting regional and international visitors.

The expansion of direct air routes between major cities in both countries has also played a key role in supporting this growth, improving accessibility and connectivity.

In contrast, outbound travel from Vietnam to the Philippines remains inconsistent and has recently shown signs of decline, partly due to increasing competition from other destinations in the region.

Philippine Ambassador to Vietnam, Francisco Noel R. Fernandez III, shared that Philippine airlines are actively introducing initiatives to attract more visitors. The Philippines is also considering establishing a tourism representative office in Vietnam to strengthen market presence and deepen cooperation.

Tourism collaboration between the two countries continues to evolve. In 2026, the Philippines will host the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), with Vietnam expected to participate actively. Meanwhile, the Vietnam-Philippines Tourism Cooperation Programme for 2026–2029 is nearing completion and is anticipated to be signed soon, providing a framework for future initiatives and strengthening two-way tourism exchange.
