Vietnam passport rises to 84th in 2026 ranking, ahead of Cambodia’s

Vietnam’s passport has risen two places to rank 84th in the Henley Passport Index 2026, improving from its position in the January update and offering visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 48 out of 227 global destinations.

According to the latest ranking, Vietnam now shares the 84th position with Angola, Burundi, and the Central African Republic.

The ranking reflects gradual fluctuations over the past year. Vietnam’s passport climbed seven places to reach 84th globally in the July 2025 update, allowing visa-free access to 51 destinations, before slipping to 88th in September and falling further to 92nd in October. In the January 2026 edition, it ranked 86th with access to 49 destinations.

Within Southeast Asia, Vietnam’s passport currently ranks above those of Cambodia (85th), Laos (87th), and Myanmar (90th), although Cambodia previously held a higher position in earlier editions of the index.

Singapore continues to hold the title of the world’s most powerful passport, granting visa-free access to 193 destinations. Japan, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates share second place in the latest ranking.

At the other end of the list, the weakest passports belong to Pakistan, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan.

The Henley Passport Index measures global travel freedom across 227 countries and territories using exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The index ranks 199 passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without obtaining a visa in advance.

Updated regularly throughout the year to reflect changes in visa policies, the index is widely regarded as a key indicator of global mobility.
