The municipal People’s Committee has approved a plan to install public Wi-Fi hotspots in key areas of the city, enhancing access to online services and supporting the development of digital infrastructure. The initiative, with an investment of VND1.2 billion, aims for completion by 2026 and is part of broader digital transformation efforts.
The municipal People’s Committee on Tuesday approved a plan to install public Wi-Fi hotspots in key public spaces across the southern city, as part of its roadmap to expand 5G infrastructure and move toward piloting 6G services. The decision was endorsed by Vice-Chairman Nguyen Van Khoi following a proposal from the local Department of Science and Technology.

According to the department, the high-speed public Wi-Fi system aims to provide residents and visitors with safe, stable, and convenient internet access, enabling them to obtain information, use online public services, and engage with digital applications more easily.
The initiative is expected to support the development of digital government, smart urban services, the digital economy, and smart tourism, while enhancing public service quality and improving state management efficiency amid ongoing digital transformation efforts.
Proposed installation sites include Luu Huu Phuoc Park, Ninh Kieu Wharf, Song Hau Park, and Cai Rang Floating Market. The project carries a total investment of approximately VND1.2 billion (US$45,810), funded through allocations for science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation.
Implementation is scheduled for completion in 2026, with an initial pilot phase at key public locations before potential citywide expansion based on performance outcomes.
