Quang Ninh sees tourism surge during New Year holiday

During the 2026 New Year holiday, Quang Ninh province experienced a surge in tourist arrivals, welcoming about 530,000 visitors, including 44,400 international tourists. Tourism revenue reached VND1.28 trillion. Key attractions like Ha Long Bay and Sun World Ha Long saw significant visitor increases, complemented by various cultural events to boost tourism demand.

From December 31, 2025 to January 2, 2026, the province welcomed approximately 530,000 visitors, including 44,400 international tourists. Overnight stays were estimated at 158,000, while total tourism revenue reached around VND1.28 trillion (over US$48.55 million).

Visitor numbers during the holiday period increased by 20-30 percent compared with normal days, with particularly positive signals coming from the rise in foreign arrivals. Major tourist sites and entertainment venues across the province attracted large crowds for sightseeing, leisure, and festive activities.

On January 1 alone, Quang Ninh received about 160,000 visitors, including 142,000 domestic travelers and 18,000 international tourists. Overnight stays reached 61,000, generating tourism revenue of approximately VND432 billion. Authorities expect visitor numbers to remain stable in the days following the holiday.

Ha Long Bay continued to be the province’s most popular attraction, welcoming an average of more than 12,000 visitors per day, the majority of whom were international tourists. To celebrate the New Year, more than 10 cruise ships, floating restaurants, and sightseeing vessels on the bay hosted year-end parties featuring art performances and fireworks displays. These premium tourism products were well received and helped reinforce Ha Long Bay’s reputation for high-quality services and distinctive experiences.

Other key attractions also recorded significant growth. Sun World Ha Long welcomed around 7,000 visitors, the Quang Ninh Museum nearly 2,500, and the Yen Tu historical and scenic relic site approximately 4,600 visitors, each posting increases of 20–30 percent compared with regular days.

To stimulate tourism demand, the province organised a wide range of cultural, sports, and tourism activities starting from December 31. Highlights included the art programme “Quang Ninh – Welcome New Year 2026,” which attracted more than 50,000 spectators on-site and hundreds of thousands online. Many localities also hosted countdown music festivals, film screenings, and ceremonial events to mark the New Year.

To ensure service quality throughout the holiday, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism directed tourism sites and businesses to strengthen inspections and supervision, maintain infrastructure and facilities, and enhance safety measures, including fire prevention, security, and food hygiene.
