Vietnam Tourism Poised to Break Records in 2025

A new report from Vietnam Report signals a milestone year ahead for Vietnam’s tourism industry. The country could welcome more than 18 million international visitors in 2025, surpassing its pre-pandemic peak and marking the strongest tourism rebound in Southeast Asia.

Domestic Demand Fuels Growth
Domestic travelers continue to play a decisive role in sustaining momentum. An estimated 125 million domestic trips this year are boosting revenue across lodging, dining, and passenger transportation. Transport volumes rose nearly 23 percent in the first ten months of 2025, reaching 5.8 billion trips.

According to Vietnam Report, 64 percent of tourism and hotel businesses recorded higher revenue this year, with nearly half reporting increased profit. Travel frequency among Vietnamese consumers is also rising, with most travellers taking two to three trips annually.

Spending Levels Shift Across Generations
Mid-range spending between 10 – 15 million VND (USD 379-569) remains the largest segment. However, higher-spending travelers are growing rapidly, especially in major cities.

Younger travelers are emerging as a key force in shaping future demand. Gen Z (born 1997-2012) is expected to travel even more in 2026, typically spending 3 – 5 million VND (USD 114-190) per trip and choosing independent, adventure-oriented journeys using personal vehicles.

Gen Y (1981-1996) shows the strongest willingness to increase spending. Around 40 percent of respondents in this group are ready to allocate VND10-15 million per trip, favoring leisure and wellness experiences and preferring to fly.

Gen X (1965-1980) leans toward slower-paced, wellness-focused travel, with more than 57 percent willing to spend over VND15 million per journey.

Vietnam’s tourism sector now stands on solid recovery ground as both domestic and international travelers contribute to a rapidly expanding market that is set to redefine national tourism benchmarks in 2025.
