Vietnam, 18 June 2025 – The newly announced Australia–Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre, jointly developed by the University of Technology Sydney, Vietnam’s Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology, and industry partner Nokia, aims to accelerate research on 5G, 6G, and cybersecurity in Hanoi. While the initiative targets broad economic priorities, its technology focus is expected to influence Vietnam’s fast‑growing hospitality and tourism sectors.
Faster, more reliable mobile networks will give hotels, resorts, and travel operators the bandwidth to expand contact‑free check‑in, AI‑powered concierge services, and real‑time crowd‑management tools at popular sites. Such upgrades align with rising visitor expectations for seamless digital service and personalised travel itineraries.

Cybersecurity research at the centre is also relevant to tourism. Stronger data‑protection measures support the safety of booking platforms, mobile payment systems, and loyalty apps, key factors in maintaining traveller trust as Vietnam attracts higher‑spending international guests and digital nomads.
Education remains a core pillar of the partnership. Scholarship and training programmes linked to the new hub will provide tourism professionals with skills in data analysis, digital service design, and smart‑destination management, upskilling the workforce to meet international service standards.

By coupling advanced connectivity, secure digital infrastructure, and a technology‑literate workforce, the Australia–Vietnam Strategic Technologies Centre adds momentum to Vietnam’s goal of positioning itself as a “smart destination.” The centre is scheduled to open later this year, supporting the country’s wider effort to blend cultural appeal with next‑generation travel experiences.
