Vietnam, 27 May 2025 – On the evening of May 16, 2025, the New South Wales (NSW) Government hosted a special alumni reception in Ho Chi Minh City, welcoming Vietnamese graduates who once studied in leading universities across New South Wales. The event served as a vibrant platform to reconnect, celebrate academic and professional milestones, reaffirming the strong education and innovation ties between Vietnam and Australia.
Held at Pullman Saigon Centre, the reception wasn’t just a social gathering. It was a celebration of educational ties and an affirmation of the longstanding relationship between Vietnam and New South Wales. For university graduates from New South Wales institutions such as the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Western Sydney University (WSU), who now lead thriving businesses and innovative NGOs, to emerging professionals shaping policy and innovation, the event provided a space for alumni to reflect, reconnect, and look forward.
The reception also served as a platform for meaningful exchange beyond sectors with diverse backgrounds from architecture, business, education, to engineering. Beyond sharing stories, guests engaged in conversations about collaboration, key areas of interest included research collaboration, industry engagement, and enhanced student mobility between Vietnam and New South Wales. Representatives from NSW institutions and the government underscored their commitment to supporting alumni networks and expanding cross-border educational opportunities.
This event follows a string of recent efforts by the NSW Government to deepen ties with Vietnam. In 2024, the NSW Education Showcase in Vietnam featured over 30 education providers and businesses, further anchoring the state’s interest in the region’s dynamic education and innovation landscape.
What was clear from the evening: studying in NSW was just the beginning. For many Vietnamese alumni, their time in Australia has evolved into a lifelong connection, one that continues to shape careers, strengthen communities, and bridge cultures.
