Top 10 outstanding culture, sports and tourism events in 2024

On December 16th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism officially announced the top 10 cultural, sports, and tourism events of 2024, including:

National Assembly approves investment for the National Target Program on Cultural Development 2025-2035:
At its 8th session, the 15th National Assembly officially approved investment in the National Target Program for Cultural Development for the period 2025-2035. This program aims to significantly advance Vietnam’s cultural development, fostering a progressive culture rich in national identity and serving as a driver for human development and national progress.

National Assembly passes the Revised Law on Cultural Heritage, completing the legal framework for the cultural heritage sector:
The National Assembly passed a revised Law on Cultural Heritage during its 8th session, marking a significant milestone in establishing a legal framework for cultural heritage preservation.

Government Issues Two Key Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Plans:
Two landmark plans – the Cultural and Sports Infrastructure Network Plan and the Tourism System Plan (2021–2030, with a vision to 2045) – were issued by the Prime Minister. These plans aim to remove institutional bottlenecks and lay the groundwork for breakthroughs in Vietnam’s cultural, sports, and tourism sectors.

70th Anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory Celebrated with Cultural and Sports Events:
A series of cultural, sports, and tourism events were organized to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the historic Dien Bien Phu victory, leaving a profound impression on participants and receiving widespread acclaim from the public and visitors.

Two Vietnamese Heritage Sites Recognized by UNESCO:
Two cultural treasures were added to UNESCO’s prestigious lists: The reliefs on the Nine Dynastic Urns in Hue’s Imperial Citadel were inscribed in the Memory of the World Regional Register for Asia and the Pacific; The Via Ba Chua Xu Festival at Sam Mountain was recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Cultural industry breaks through with programs of great stature, attraction, and social impact:
2024 is a year that recorded many positive signals in the development of Vietnam’s cultural industry: The Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024, concerts of the programs “Anh Trai Vuot Ngan Chong Gai”, “Anh Trai Says Hi”, the 1st Nha Trang International Jazz Program 2024, the success of the films “Dao, Pho and Piano”, “Lat Mat”… have created a positive effect, contributing to promoting the development of the cultural industry.

First-ever promotion of Vietnamese tourism and cinema in the US:
For the first time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism organized a program to promote Vietnamese tourism and cinema in Hollywood, USA, on a large scale, attracting more than 500 guests, including leading Hollywood producers and directors, marking a breakthrough and innovation in promoting Vietnamese tourism to exploit and develop tourism through cinema.

Vietnam’s tourism recovers strongly after the pandemic, welcoming about 17 million international tourists and 120 million domestic tourists:
In 2024, despite many fluctuations in the domestic and international context, tourism remains a bright spot in the economy. Welcoming 17 million international visitors and 120 million domestic visitors, the tourism industry has marked a complete recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Vietnam hosts the International Conference on Rural Tourism of the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) in 2024:
The first International Conference on Rural Tourism, held in December 2024, is a global conference, attracting the participation of more than 300 delegates from 50 countries around the world. Vietnam further establishes itself as a key player in global tourism discussions.

The Vietnamese women’s volleyball team wins a world medal for the first time and becomes Asian champion for the second time:
At the FIVB Volleyball World Cup – Challenge Cup 2024 held in early July in the Philippines, the Vietnamese women’s volleyball team made history for the country’s volleyball when they won a medal for the first time at a world-class tournament.
