Vietnam’s central coast is quickly becoming a favorite destination for Australian golfers, thanks to strategic marketing efforts and world-class courses.
Central Vietnam has established itself as a world-class destination for play featuring courses designed by legendary figures such as Sir Nick Faldo (Laguna Golf Lang Co), Luke Donald (Ba Na Hills Golf Club), and Colin Montgomerie (Montgomerie Links), alongside iconic names like Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones Jr.
The region’s growing reputation on the global stage was underscored in 2023 when it set a record for the number of rounds played.And the Australian golfers are leading the way, showing the strongest growth in visits to Vietnam’s courses. Montgomerie Links has seen a 20% rise in Aussie golfers over the past two years, and Ba Na Hills Golf Club had an even higher record of a 35-40% increase. Interestingly, many Australians are choosing to escape their winter by playing golf in Vietnam during the typically quieter season, providing a year-round boost to the local tourism industry.
The huge increase in international player numbers is a result of the successful marketing campaign launched by Vietnam’s Golf Coast (VGC) to attract Australian golfers. In September 2024, Laguna Golf Lang Co successfully hosted roadshows in Melbourne and Sydney to connect with media, tour operators, and potential travelers.
Specifically, an information session was held for local media and tour operators interested in discovering why Danang has emerged as a central hub for golf tourism. From that, attendees could learn about the unique qualities of central Vietnam’s golf courses, luxurious hotels, and diverse tourism offerings. Representatives from the Danang Tourism Promotion Centre were also on hand to provide more insights and answer audience questions. The roadshow then moved to Sydney where a similar program highlighted Central Vietnam’s golf experiences.
