On September 3rd, Hội An (Quảng Nam) was honored by the World Travel Awards (WTA) as the “Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination” for 2024, marking the fifth consecutive time it has received this prestigious title. This recognition not only underscores the unique cultural value of the ancient town but also elevates Hội An as an enduring cultural symbol of Vietnam.
Nestled along the Thu Bồn River, about 30 kilometers south of Da Nang, Hội An boasts well-preserved architecture dating back to the 16th century. The town’s ancient houses, stone-paved streets, and temples reflect a rich blend of cultural influences from both Eastern and Western civilizations. Visitors to Hội An can immerse themselves in the town’s nostalgic ambiance and experience its intangible cultural heritage through traditional activities like lantern lighting, bài chòi singing, lantern making, and various forms of folk art.

Beyond its architectural and cultural allure, Hội An captivates travelers with its distinctive local cuisine. Cao lầu, a signature dish of Hội An, stands out with its chewy noodles paired with pork, bean sprouts, and fresh herbs. Mì Quảng, a popular dish in Central Vietnam, offers a rich, savory broth with soft noodles and a variety of toppings. Hội An’s famous bánh mì, once hailed as one of the best sandwiches in the world, features a crispy baguette filled with flavorful meats and vegetables. Additionally, Hội An delights with other culinary specialties like chicken rice, grilled pork wrapped in rice paper, and refreshing chè desserts.

In August, the Australian travel site Escape praised Hội An as one of the 13 best destinations for a September vacation. Earlier, in April, the renowned travel magazine Travel+Leisure ranked Hội An 4th among the world’s 25 most beloved cities and 3rd among the top 25 cities in Asia, as voted by readers.
To further enhance its cultural and natural appeal, Quảng Nam has developed new tourism offerings, notably the “Quảng Nam – Green Heritage Land” program, featuring phases like “Quảng Nam – Summer Emotions” and “Quảng Nam – The Golden Season.” Additionally, the continuous investment in luxury hotels and resorts in Hội An ensures that visitors enjoy first-class, comfortable experiences.
Hội An’s consistent recognition as “Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination” is a testament to the timeless charm of this ancient town. Come to Hội An to feel the simple, serene, and profound cultural essence, and savor the unique culinary delights of this extraordinary region.
