Gen Z women, highly influenced by trailblazers like Amelia Earhart and social media figures, feel empowered to venture solo, with over half (58.3%) interested in solo travel abroad. Despite concerns about safety and navigation, their motives for solo travel, linked to personal growth and relaxation, align with Vietnam’s diverse tourism offerings, which make Vietnam an appealing destinations for them.
GEN Z WOMEN FEEL EMPOWERED TO TRAVEL ALONE
Generation Z is famous for embracing independence, especially when it comes to solo female travels. StudentUniverse, part of Flight Centre Travel Group and the largest platform for student and youth travel, explored the behavior of young women in this age group towards solo travel, which is increasingly popular among females.
A survey discovered that over half (58.3%) of Gen Z women are interested in traveling alone abroad. Feeling empowered, they’re drawn to booking solo adventures by the experiences of other female travelers. In fact, a whopping 83% mentioned being influenced by trailblazers like Amelia Earhart or their favorite social media influencers. Nearly half (48%) of those who’ve already traveled solo encourage other women to plan their own individual trips.
These women are highly mindful of mental health, and their motives for solo female travels are often linked to personal growth. For them, the main reasons for embarking on solo journeys are to step out of their comfort zone (69.7%), engage in self-discovery (62.3%), experience freedom (60.3%), practice self-care (57.9%), and boost confidence (51.1%). Notably, 69.2% prefer solo vacations centered around relaxing by the beach or pool. Sightseeing (59.4%) and wellness adventures (59%) are also top activities, while only 32.8% show interest in nightlife experiences.
Considering preferred travel styles and motivations, Europe tops the list as the prime destination for solo female travels among Gen Z. With its beautiful beaches, abundant sightseeing spots, and social media popularity, 68% of respondents want to visit Europe. The South Pacific and East Asia also attract these travelers, with 44.1% interested in countries like Australia and New Zealand and 40.8% intrigued by China and Japan.
Despite the allure of traveling alone, Gen Z women express concerns. Navigating a foreign country solo brings worries, with 71.3% fearing getting lost or stranded. Safety concerns (69.1%) and the fear of being scammed (61.4%) follow closely. These concerns influence their choice of accommodations, with 52.6% preferring hotels over vacation rentals like Airbnb or hostels (23.2%), where they might have more support from trusted staff. Additionally, they’re more likely to opt for a hostel with a private room (18%) rather than a shared dorm (3.4%). This indicates that companies targeting solo female travelers from Gen Z should prioritize offering amenities that ensure safety and comfort.
VIETNAM AS A DESTINATION FOR SOLO FEMALE TRAVELLERS
In Vietnam, solo female travels can find an enticing destination that caters to their preferences. With more than 3,400 km of coastline, it is easy to find stunning beaches in this country. From the renowned shores of Da Nang and Phu Quoc to the newly emerging gems like An Bang and Dam Trau in Con Dao, there’s a diverse range of beach destinations to explore.
Vietnam also ranks high among places ideal for solo vacations centered around relaxation. Sightseeing opportunities abound, from the ancient town of Hoi An to the bustling streets of Hanoi. Beyond, explore the highlands—Cao Bang’s waterfalls and Moc Chau’s serene hills unveil unique cultural experiences, perfect for solo female travelers seeking a different side of Vietnam’s beauty and culture.
Wellness tourism in Vietnam is thriving, with destinations like Yen Tu, Sapa, and even Phu Quoc emerging as havens for relaxation. Whether indulging in a luxurious stay at a 5-star hotel with a deluxe spa or immersing in the serene ambiance of a local homestay, these areas offer tranquil experiences. Yen Tu, in particular, provides spiritual and cultural experiences, while Sapa and Phu Quoc boast peaceful environments ideal for daily relaxation and rejuvenation amidst breathtaking landscapes.
Concerns about getting lost in Vietnam are mitigated by the effectiveness of tools like Google Maps and GPS, which work seamlessly in most areas, aiding solo travelers in navigation. Safety is often a primary concern, but Vietnam assures a generally safe environment for solo female travels. While violent crimes are rare, petty crimes like pickpocketing, theft, and bag snatching might occur, particularly in crowded places or on public transport where distractions are more likely. However, it’s essential to note that the occurrence rate of such petty crimes remains relatively low in Vietnam.
For solo female travelers, practicing common safety precautions recommended for any foreign country is advisable. Despite these concerns, Vietnam presents a warm and inviting atmosphere, making it a welcoming destination for those exploring the world independently.
